Notes:	Highlights some of the major factors contributing to the particular vulnerability of women with disabilities to a variety of forms of abuse and neglect and sets out the findings of a study that utilised a naturalistic design and focus group methodology in order to examine the needs and experiences of this group of women. The results of the study reveal significant patterns in both the nature of abuse experienced and the most common responses to abuse. The kind of abuse experience tended to fall into the category of either assault, neglect or control/restraint whilst the kinds of responses ranged from acceptance of responsibility for the abuse, to resignation that the abuse would not stop, to taking active steps to end the abusive relationship. Confirms previous findings that while some forms and sources of abuse are common to all women, some are unique to disabled women and emphasises the role of poverty and isolation in exacerbating cycles of abuse. The need for greater understanding of the differences between disabled women is also recognised.
