Notes:  Discusses the criminal justice system’s response to women who kill and the gender bias traditional defences reflect, particularly where domestic violence is an issue. A recent report issued by the Victorian Law Reform Commission regarding the need for changing legal defences to homicide is examined with particular emphasis on the law of provocation and self defence. Whilst the author does not advocate complete abolition of either defence, it is argued that significant changes are needed if women are to be ‘heard, seen and reflected’ in the legal system. Information on how to make a submission to the VLRC is also provided.
