Notes:  Research funded in 1998 by the Partnership Against Domestic Violence Initiative was undertaken to determine the needs of people who have been involved in domestic violence situations. In order to address these needs, the effective strategies and interventions to prevent domestic violence were examined. More than one hundred participants contributed to the research, including victims, perpetrators, children and young people that have witnessed domestic abuse, and service providers for people from Aboriginal and non-English speaking backgrounds. The findings reveal that public education initiatives to respond to domestic violence disclosures are required. Similarly, non-physical forms of domestic violence have to be recognised; on-going support groups for perpetrators should be provided; and conflict resolution skills must be taught.
