Notes:  This article reports on the authors’ research which aimed to understand changes in children’s behaviour as a result of cessation of intimate partner violence (IPV) following investigation for suspected child maltreatment. The study population was taken from the child protective services component of the (US) National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being. The longitudinal retrospective cohort study identified two possible outcomes, persistent IPV and resolved IPV, and measured the internalising or externalizing of children’s difficult behaviour. The results showed that resolution of intimate partner violence after an investigation of suspected child maltreatment did significantly reduce child behaviour problems.
