Notes: | Reviews Resolving Family Violence To Children:by Thea Brown et al, a comprehensive evaluation report of Project Magellan, a pilot project conducted in Victoria for managing Family Court residence and contact disputes when allegations of serious child physical and/or sexual abuse have been made. The report on Project Magellan documented a reduction in the number of court hearings, in the time taken and in the number of cases proceeding to a judicial determination. Also minimised were the breakdown rate of final orders, the number of distressed children and costs to both the court and Legal Aid. Report concludes that Project Magellan was able to meet its goals through an innovative, collaborative inter-organisational programme based on new principles and procedures. Oversight of the project by the Interdepartmental Committee made up of the Family Court of Australia and various Commonwealth and Victorian departments and agencies was instrumental in the project’s success. |
