Notes:  Outlines the methodology and results of a study aimed at identifying key risk factors for physical and sexual assault by an intimate partner amongst patients presenting to the emergency department in two Adelaide hospitals. The findings confirm that domestic physical assault is common amongst young women presenting to the emergency department but also highlight the difficulties associated with developing a clear risk factor profile that might enhance domestic violence screening processes. A more practical model is proposed and the need for further research into risk factors for death and injury amongst patients previously exposed to violence is advocated.
