Notes:  This article explores practitioners’ safety planning processes with women and their children, in and leaving domestic violence relationships, within the context of shared parenting and the pro-contact climate created by the 2006 Shared Parental Responsibility Family Law Amendment. Constraints to safety planning include contact and handover violence, inhibiting protection, reduced capacity to escape, increased risk of poverty and homelessness and ‘legal bullying’. The article concludes with advice for practitioners on issues regarding safety planning with children.
