Notes: | Argues that there is a crucial need for integration of the many service agencies available to respond to women who are the victims of domestic violence in order to prioritise women’s safety. This understanding has recently placed women’s family violence services under much scrutiny. Argues that partnerships between agencies must be part of an integrated approach and ideally it must aim for systemic change. Among the difficulties include achieving agreement on goals; and commitment to codes of practice and monitoring from such a diverse range of services as court and police support and medical, housing and drug and alcohol services. Argues that there needs to be a systemic response if women are to have any hope of navigating all the services they require. Limitations on funding agreements and relationships can also pose problems because of the resulting interrelationships between various services. Concludes that, at a time when interest in this area is acute, the government should recognise that a broad, comprehensive approach is needed amongst specialist agencies and that the government can best assist this by providing adequate funding. |
