Notes:  The National Homicide Monitoring Program (NHMP) oversees the collection of data on homicides within Australia and releases this information in the form of annual reports dating from 1989-1990. It has determined that 25% of homicide cases in Australia involve death at the hands of an intimate partner, and further, that 2% of these homicides occur in same-sex relationships.

This research paper seeks to examine the characteristics and context of same-sex intimate partner homicide. Internationally, this is an under-researched area and this paper is one of the first to attempt analysis of these occurrences in the Australian environment.

In exploring the similarities and differences in characteristics of same-sex and opposite-sex intimate partner homicide, the authors also weigh the importance of sexual discrimination and marginalisation as factors in same-sex intimate partner homicide.
