Article discusses the CD-ROM developed by the Communities Caring For Kids Coalition in Toowoomba, a group of non-government agencies and staff from the Queensland Department of Communities. The CD-ROM, ‘Seen but not heard: children who live with domestic or family violence’, delivers a training programme in five self-paced modules and includes case studies, training exercises and PowerPoint presentations for group use. It is designed for practitioners, volunteers, students, teachers, police and child care workers. Article also looks at research on the impact of domestic violence on children and its short- and long-term consequences, and mentions new overseas initiatives which provide a holistic response to families experiencing domestic violence and child protection. Gives reasons why the traditional child protection model in Australia has not looked after the needs of children who live with domestic or family violence.
