Notes:  This article provides an overview of the programs offered by the Aboriginal Family Violence Prevention and Legal Service Victoria. The paper is based on consultations conducted with the victims of family and domestic violence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The author points to trans-generational racism and discrimination as reasons for the vulnerability of women in these communities to family violence. To combat these barriers, the author advocates for community legal education, early legal referrals, strengthening police communication and the provision of holistic legal services.
