Notes:  "Seminar presented at the Australian Institute of Family Studies, Melbourne, Thursday 15 April 2004"
Presented at the Australian Institute of Family Studies, this seminar outlines the Columbus Pilot Project conducted in the Family Court of Western Australia during 2001-2003, to individually case-manage matters involving allegations of spousal violence, child abuse or sexual abuse and family violence. The pilot project aims to assist and encourage separated parents to acknowledge the effects of violence or abusive behaviour and to promote the resolution of differences over contact and residency issues without prolonged litigation in the Family Court. The Family Court of Western Australia and its counselling service identify the needs of parents in terms of interventions to address issues ranging from anger management, dealing with a violent partner or parenting skills for a parent who has been living with an abusive partner.
