Title: The overlap between child maltreatment and woman abuse
Authors: Edleson, Jeffrey L
Keywords: Child protection
Year: 1999
Publisher: VAWnet Library
Notes:  This is a shorter version of the article published by the same author in the journal Violence Against Women:in 1999 (No. 280 in the Research and Resources database).
Reviews existing research from the US, UK and Australia into the prevalence, incidence and nature of child maltreatment and woman abuse occurring in the same families, outlining some of the major strategies used to identify families in which these forms of abuse overlap. The table provided lists a range of studies conducted, the nature of the inquiry and the percentage of overlap reported in each. Concludes by highlighting important gaps in our knowledge of the dynamics of overlapping forms of violence, its impact on victims and the ways in which experiences are influenced by racial, ethnic and cultural factors.
