Notes:	This US article, an invited commentary, outlines the authors’ research which aimed to define opportunities and challenges for strengthening support within rural communities for older women who experience intimate partner violence (IPV). The authors used community-based participatory research including focus groups and individual interviews to understand the incidence of IPV, the women’s experiences and the level of reporting. Existing trends in service provision are discussed compared with the women’s responses which support the need for greater knowledge and skills around the particular needs of rural older women.
