Potito provides a review of literature about domestic and family violence, including existing Australian legislation and practice guidelines, relating particularly to transgender and intersex relationships. She acknowledges that research and literature is significantly lacking in this area and proposes reasons for this. Potito highlights how the literature conceptualises the barriers transgender and intersex people face when seeking support and service provision. Social attitudes, heterosexism and transphobia are recurring themes within this literature review. The article concludes with recommendations for the necessary development of targeted responses in a few key areas.
