General overview:This policy document sets out the Victorian Government’s vision for women and children to live free from family violence. The strategic framework builds on the family violence reforms which have taken place since 2005 and will guide the government’s planning and investment in this area over the next decade.

Discussion:In conjunction with A right to respect: Victoria’s plan to prevent violence against women 2010-2020; Strong culture, strong peoples, strong families: towards a safer future for Indigenous families and communities; the Sexual Assault Reform Strategy:; Victoria’s next strategy to address homelessness over the next ten years; and the forthcoming national plan to reduce violence against women and children, this document makes the following outcomes its priority:

This framework elucidates the family violence reform governance and advisory structures which support the development and functioning of the Integrated Family Violence System, an organisational structure which extends from Victorian state ministries to regional steering committees and action groups.

* strengthening relationships between police, courts and service providers
* developing good practice across the various elements of the integrated system, including workforce capacity, governance and data systems
* building and maintaining a sustainable workforce as well as maintaining continuing professional development within the specialist sector.
