An area of particular concern is the proposed Family Relationship Centre which the NCSMC recommends support the ‘safety first’ principle for children and adults, be subject to strict quality assurance and accreditation in the areas of family violence and child development and maltreatment, and be linked with mental health services, drug and alcohol services, parenting skills programmes and other services for children and adults living with violence. It also recommends that staff within the family law system be trained in child development, family violence, its dynamics and outcomes. NCSMC also voices concerns over what it sees as misogyny in the Discussion Paper and suggests that such attitudes be examined and eliminated.
