Notes:  "This document provides the NSW Health domestic violence policy. Frontline NSW Health staff and managers will need to read the more comprehensive NSW Health Policy and Procedures for Identifying and Responding to Domestic Violence."--Preface.
This policy aims to reduce the incidence of domestic violence and minimise its consequences through three levels of prevention: before it occurs, immediate responses, and ongoing treatment and follow-up counselling. Identification of and routine screening for domestic violence and support, counselling and referral for the victims are some of the strategies included. The document specifies the legal obligations of Area Health Service staff and their limited intervention with perpetrators. Training, access and equity in health services, documentation, data collection, staff safety and interagency collaboration are briefly addressed.
