Notes:  Highlighting a multi-agency, interdisciplinary approach, this manual sets out the facts and figures, definitions and indicators of family and domestic violence and provides health professionals with a comprehensive guide to assessment, intervention, coordination and managerial policy development in the area. Patient safety, confidentiality, referral tips and processes and a variety of legal issues are discussed. The section dealing with accessibility of services addresses the specific needs of particular groups and the responsibilities hospital staff have to these groups. Examples include ATSI communities, NESB women, women from remote areas, pregnant women, children and the elderly. Methods for documenting domestic violence cases and standards for staff education, safety, support and training are also outlined. The appendices list useful community resources and provide additional information on perpetrator programmes and Indigenous communities. This document is an accompanying tool to ‘Guidelines for Developing Protocols on Intervention and Management of Family and Domestic Violence for Hospitals in Western Australia’.
