The responsibilities and standards expected of staff in detecting, assessing and referring patients, whether to a welfare or criminal justice agency, are outlined, as are the various ethical obligations which will arise, such as confidentiality and patient safety. Specific standards in relation to documentation, data collection and work with minority and/or disadvantaged groups, such as pregnant women, women from NESB and children are provided as are standards in relation to staff training, education, safety and professional support.
