These guidelines, developed to assist professionals and agencies in working with families and children, provide the basis for an interagency response to child protection issues in NSW. Part One outlines the background, aims and philosophy of the interagency approach and the roles of the various agencies involved. Part Two introduces the reader to key concepts and definitions used in interagency practice and some of the prevention and intervention strategies developed by agencies for responding to child abuse. Part Three presents a model for interagency child protection, from the initial stage of recognition to ongoing support following intervention. Parts Four and Five set out the various legislative, criminal justice and administrative law mechanisms available for responding to child abuse and include a discussion of the role of the NSW Ombudsman in investigation of child abuse allegations.
