Notes: | "The purpose of this study is to illuminate the process of recovery for women who have experienced sexual violence at some point in their life span. The study explores the existing literature on trauma-based models of survival from sexual violence and finds that the prevailing view of the impact in the current trauma literature predicts a downward trajectory of distressing trauma-related symptomology. The aim of this research is to expand on the contemporary trauma literature and to elucidate and explore the role of self-protective factors, both in terms of how they might ameliorate the adversities associated with surviving sexual violence and of their function in the process of recovery. |
