Developed by Women’s Legal Aid as part of the Queensland Violence Against Women Strategy, the best practice guidelines set out in this booklet aim to assist legal practitioners, family report writers, conference chairs, child representatives and client service centres in working with victims and perpetrators of domestic violence. Key principles identified include empowerment, safety of clients and workers, recognition of the criminal nature of violence, access and equity, coordination and collaboration between agencies, respect for client privacy and rights and the importance of developing an analysis of domestic violence which acknowledges the role of gender and power relations. A listing of self-help kits and guidelines is also provided.
