Some basic information on what constitutes domestic violence and the criteria for applying for a protection order are set out in the introductory chapters. The remaining chapters focus on providing a step-by-step guide to the processes through which persons applying for protection orders must go in order to obtain and maintain legal protection from perpetrators. A glossary of terms commonly used in legal proceedings is included, as are contact details of various crisis and support agencies. Some brief comments on the role of the Family Law Reform Act 1995 and its relationship to the Family Law Act 1975 are made and samples of the relevant forms applicants must fill out in seeking protection orders are provided.
