Notes:	General Overview: Produced by Homeworks Trust New Zealand (NZ), this DVD and teaching guide aims to assist service providers in responding appropriately to women experiencing domestic violence related mental health and drug and alcohol issues. Discussion: The 27 minute DVD, 'He drove me mad', examines ways in which women's experiences of and responses to domestic violence impact on their ability to seek help, with a particular focus on mental health and drug and alcohol issues. The DVD aims to improve the responses of services providers, such as lawyers and health and mental health professionals, to women who seek help in relation to domestic violence. It presents mental health issues and drug and alcohol abuse as symptoms of domestic violence or coping mechanisms rather than discrete problems for intervention. The DVD provides information about the ways in which perpetrators use power and control to abuse women and uses dramatised case studies based on real women's experiences to demonstrate ways in which service providers can reproduce abusive behaviours, as well as examples of positive interventions. Key strategies for preventing revictimisation include: avoiding judgements and stereotyping; implementing comprehensive domestic violence screening policies and procedures; providing a safe space for women; listening to and believing women; attending to posture and tone; and safety planning. The resource kit accompanying the DVD provides information regarding Homeworks Trust and information on how to use the kit as a teaching aid. A list of references and a PowerPoint presentation on domestic violence and mental illness/substance abuse are included, as well as a series of fact sheets that cover the definition and effects of domestic violence, current responses to victims of domestic violence, how services can help, how services can re-abuse, and specialised refuge services.
