Reports on the findings of the US National Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, conducted in 2010. The survey found that nearly 1 in 5 women (18.3%) and 1 in 71 men (1.4%) have experienced sexual violence at some time in their lives. More than half of the female victims reported being raped by an intimate partner. The survey found that 1 in 6 women (16.2%) and 1 in 19 men (5.2%) have experienced stalking at some time in their life. Negative health consequences for victims are discussed and the study concludes with promoting a prevention and early intervention approach based around healthy, respectful relationships and emotionally supportive environments in families.
