| dc.description.notes | This report examines labour rights issues for women and girls in Australia, particularly those are in transit, have been forced to migrate or are trafficked, including forced marriage. The report primarily draws on research and published literature, but is also informed by interviews with key service provider organisations. The report covers labour rights of women; child labour in Australia; people trafficking, slavery and forced labour; migrant workers in Australia; Indigenous women and girls; and legal protections and services for migrant and Indigenous women and girls in employment. Fourteen recommendations have been identified which address women in precarious employment; child protection; forced and servile marriage; trafficking, slavery and forced labour; international students; Indigenous women and girls; and the Fair Work Act.<br/ >[Appended From Merge Migration]<br/ >The report examines emerging areas of concern and focuses on the labour rights of Indigenous and migrant women and girls, women in transit, trafficked women, and women who migrate through forced marriage. CALD women in part -time and casual work are at risk. Whilst child labour exploitation is not on a significant scale in Australia, monitoring is recommended. Indigenous women have a history of exploitation and are overrepresented in unemployment. Migrant women, particularly those on temporary or student visas are vulnerable due to financial, langauge, housing and education needs. Forced and servile marriage is an emerging issue that has cultural and legal complexities, education of community workers is important for their full protection where domestic violence is an issue. The outcomes of the research are intended to be used to guide resource allocation and the development of new services, research and advocacy strategies. | en |
