dc.description.notesThe purpose of the New South Wales Child Death Review Team (CDRT, the Team) is to provide information about child deaths and to prevent or reduce the number of deaths in New South Wales of children and young people from birth to 17 years of age.<br/ ><br/ >From July 2000 to June 2001, the deaths of 729 children aged 0 to 17 years were registered in NSW; that is 46.1 deaths per 100,000 children in the population.<br/ ><br/ >Chapter 5.3 deals with assault as the cause of death. Fourteen children (8 females; 6 males) died as a result of assault. This included five infants (aged less than 1 year) and 5 children (aged between 16 and 17 years).en
