dc.description.notesThe purpose of the New South Wales Child Death Review Team (CDRT, the Team) is to provide information about child deaths and to prevent or reduce the number of deaths in New South Wales of children and young people from birth to 17 years of age.<br/ ><br/ >From July 1999 to June 2000, 809 children and young people aged 0 to 17 years died in New South Wales; that is 51.2 fatalities per 100,000 children in the population.<br/ ><br/ >Chapter 5.5 deals with assault as the cause of death. Fourteen children and young people (10 males and 4 females) died as a result of assault in this period with 10 of the children aged 0 to 5 years.en
