dc.description.notes | An 11 page summary report is also available.<br/ >The purpose of the New South Wales Child Death Review Team (CDRT, the Team) is to provide information about child deaths and to prevent or reduce the number of deaths in New South Wales of children and young people from birth to 17 years of age.<br/ ><br/ >From January to December 2005, there were a total of 599 deaths of children and young people aged 0 to 17 years registered in New South Wales.<br/ ><br/ >Chapter 8 deals with assault as the cause of death. During 2005, twelve children and young people died as a result of assault, making assault the fourth most frequent cause of death reported to the Coroner for children and young people aged 0 to 17 years. Eight of the 12 children and young people were identified as vulnerable. For five children, significant psycho-social factors within the children’s families were apparent, including parental drug use, domestic violence and neglect. | en |
