dc.description.notes | This US report presents findings from an analysis of 69 case studies of custody evaluations with allegations of domestic violence from four legal services in New York City. The study examined how the beliefs and practices of the social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists conducting the evaluations affected parenting arrangements and safety plans. Generally, the results indicated that parenting plans recommended by evaluators did not differ significantly from settlements or court-ordered plans. Additionally, the strongest predictor of parenting plan safety was the evaluator’s assessment of ongoing risk for domestic violence. Evaluator’s knowledge of domestic violence and beliefs about the child’s best interests significantly affected the evaluator’s recommendations. | en |
