dc.description.notes | This report provides a summary of part of a larger study conducted in the ACT that interviewed Aboriginal women about their experiences of family violence. The report provides a brief background and outlines the key recommendations from the study. Several key topics are discussed by reporting quotes from the women interviewed, including what is family violence, personal networks, seeking help, interactions with the police, men who are perpetrators, women's own recommendations for improving access and protection. The report concludes with a brief summary of interviews from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander justice and service workers.<br/ >[Appended From Merge Migration]<br/ >In Canberra, members of the Indigenous population are five times more likely to be affected by family violence than the non-Indigenous population. This community report is based on a larger study looking at the experience of family violence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander victims, and their access to justice and to services. Part of the project involved interviews with 15 Aboriginal women who had been victims of violence about their own experiences, and this report records the voices of these women as well as some recommendations for the future.<br/ >Community report / ACT Victims of Crime Coordinator.<br/ >(VoCC) | en |
