dc.description.notes"The report of the Taskforce on the Health Aspects of Violence Against Women and Children"<br/ >Overview: In this report, the UK Taskforce on the Health Aspects of Violence Against Women and Children sets out initial findings about the way the British National Health Service [NHS] currently deals with violence against women and children. The Taskforce also considers options for a more targeted approach, as previously seen with the NHS approach to health issues like diabetes or stroke.<br/ ><br/ >Discussion: The Taskforce outlines the terrain under which the investigation into NHS responses to violence against women and children took place. The investigation examined the significant impact and prevalence of violence against women and girls in Britain today. It evaluated current domestic violence initiatives and looked into effective response measures, in order that this inform the recommendations of the final report.<br/ ><br/ >The report discusses the research methodology the domestic violence sub-group used to gather evidence. This included discussions with women and children who use the NHS and NHS staff. These responses were collated to outline the gaps in NHS responses to violence against women and girls. There are 21 recommendations aimed at increasing awareness of NHS staff about violence against women, being better able to identify clients affected and maintain confidentiality, being better able to advise on services and refer, as well as recommendations concerned with embedding responses to such violence in practice and promoting leadership and governance about this issue.en
