This report was commissioned by the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. The Family Law Evaluation Team used data collected from a total of 28,000 people involved in the family law system as well as administrative data and court files to critically evaluate recent changes to the family law and service system. Overall, the majority of families were found to have had a positive experience in their dealings with the family law system. Families and children who are exposed to abuse and violence, however, present challenges to the family law system which remain to be addressed adequately, especially in the application of family dispute resolution.
