Notes:	"Final Report" ".February 2006" General Overview: In this report, the authors draw on European research to explore the way that the legal system can be both a facilitator and a hindrance for women and children suffering violence. Discussion:Through evaluating various European models, the authors highlight the way that elements of the legal system that deal with child protection, violence against women and issues of immigration are often separated out, have values in opposition to one another, despite these issues being interlinked, often intrinsically. The report recommends that these elements of the legal system be brought into line, so that the response to violence against women and children is harmonised rather than contradictory. Humphreys and Carter make specific recommendations for how the justice system could be improved, in particular: * improvements in cross-over between criminal, civil and police law * provision of support services to women, especially women with immigration issues, which provide a holistic approach * recognition within legislation that domestic violence is a form of child abuse.
