dc.description.notes | "Initial report from a study funded by the Economic & Social Research Council, award No. RES-000-23-0650"<br/ >Overview: This report provides the initial findings from UK-based research into same sex domestic abuse, undertaken by Sunderland and Bristol Universities and funded by the Economic and Social Research Council.<br/ ><br/ >This study is the first to directly compare domestic abuse in same sex and heterosexual relationships. The authors administered a UK-wide survey to 800 respondents, and conducted five focus groups and 67 individual, semi-structured interviews with men and women identifying as heterosexual, lesbian, gay male, bisexual and queer. The report identifies difficulties faced in obtaining a representative sample of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) respondents due to the ‘hidden’ nature of the LGBT population in Britain and respondent concerns regarding confidentiality. The report covers issues such as experiences and impacts of domestic and family violence, sexuality as a tool of control – an issue of particular concern to the LGBT community, post-separation abuse and help-seeking, and provides examples of direct participant responses. | en |
