Discussion:The authors note that surveys regarding prevalence and health impacts of interpersonal violence have used different methodologies, and their results are not necessarily comparable. The authors set out standards for methodology, including achieving representation of different population groups, obtaining information about both victimisation and perpetration and ethical standards. They also address standards for specific groups, including women, children and youth, elderly people and ethnic minorities. The aim of the report is to provide valid data for comparison between countries, regions and over time. Recommendations are made for future research and for specific groups of victims.en
