dc.description.notes"Final Report, 2004"<br/ >‘Violence Excluded: a study into exclusion orders South East Sydney’ reports on the findings of the first study in NSW of exclusion orders. Exclusion orders are a condition of an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) which enable women and their children leaving domestic violence to remain in their own homes, and exclude or remove the violent partner. The study captured thirty-two (32) AVO matters which included an application for an exclusion order, at Waverley and Sutherland local courts over a six-month period in 2002. Court transcripts were analysed to identify key themes and the courts’ reasons for granting and denying orders. The study recommends that in cases involving exclusion orders, local courts give primary attention to the safety needs of women and children, rather than the accommodation needs of defendants.en
