dc.description.notes"An Australian government initiative"<br/ >"Produced by Partnerships Against Domestic Violence"<br/ >A meta-evaluation of the first phase of the Australian Government's 'Partnerships Against Domestic Violence' (PADV) initiative was conducted in 2003. "Indigenous Family Violence" is one in a series of six reports on the outcomes and findings of this meta-evaluation. The report provides an overview of the incidence, prevalence and nature of domestic violence and its impact on Indigenous communities, noting the historical and policy context within which programmes addressing violence in Indigenous communities have been developed. The difficulties in applying traditional theoretical frameworks used to explain domestic violence to the unique experiences of Indigenous communities are highlighted and alternative approaches to intervention are suggested, including the notion of 'community capacity building'. A range of prevention, community education and development, perpetrator, collaborative and counselling/therapeutic programmes funded under PADV are then outlined and some implications for future policy, research and practice considered.en
