dc.description.notes | Presented at Where's my Home? New Directions for Women and Children Survivors of DV:, hosted by The Women's Housing Association and Shelter SA, International Women's Day 2004, Adelaide, SA.<br/ >Paper presents interim findings for the Clearinghouse research, “Staying home/leaving violence” which explores how women may be able to remain safely in their own homes on leaving a domestic violence situation, with the violent partner leaving the home instead. The paper discusses how the 29 women interviewed in the study have responded to the research question, and identifies six different types of responses to women staying in their own homes and leaving violence. This includes women who have fled their home for safety, and women who have remained in their own home by having the police remove the violent partner and applying for an exclusion condition of an AVO to keep the man out of the home. The paper draws on women’s own voices and stories and affirms the principle of choice for women who leave a relationship involving domestic violence. | en |
