This report is the Queensland Government response to the Cape York Justice Study, headed by Justice Tony Fitzgerald. It identifies a range of short- and long-term reforms to address violence and alcohol issues affecting Indigenous communities in Queensland. The report reflects the previous groundbreaking work undertaken by the Fitzgerald team, the ATSI Women’s Taskforce on Violence, the Cape York Partnerships Plan, and the ATSI Ten Year Partnership Plan, as well as grassroots concerns of the Indigenous people who took part in the consultation process. Issues such as law and order reform; alcohol intervention; children, youth and families; crime and justice; a framework for the future; economic development; healthier people; education and training; and land and sustainable natural resource management, are also addressed.en
