The research was undertaken as part of Partnerships Against Domestic Violence and included a comprehensive literature review of Australian and international crisis intervention programs and services relevant to Indigenous families, and consultation with a number of Aboriginal communities, Aboriginal women's groups and relevant service providers. The report presents a review of relevant policy, practice and academic literature, and a number of policy recommendations. Key themes in the literature are discussed and include: Indigenous perspectives on violence in intimate relationships; family violence and healing; critiques of the criminalisation response to domestic violence; repeat victimisation; domestic violence policy; new initiatives in Australian and in Canada and the United Kingdom; and developing interventions.
