dc.description.notesOverview: This is a preliminary report, the first of an independent evaluation of the Waikatere Family Violence Court Protocols (WFVCP). The Waikatere Family Violence Court (WFVC) convenes weekly within the Waikatere District Court in Auckland New Zealand and is an innovative coordinated response to family violence offences. The Court is regulated by protocols introduced in 2005 which aim to:<br/ ><br/ >Aims: The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the WFVC from the perspective of all participants. The judiciary and court administration, community organisations, lawyers, police and community probation are identified as stakeholders who contribute to the collaborative approach adopted by the WFVC. This report aims to provide useful feedback to all participants based on the preliminary analysis of data.<br/ ><br/ >General Discussion: The document assesses and examines the WFVC from the perspective of all participants. The background, history and development since 1992 of the WFVC is detailed and discussed, along with the social, legislative and political context surrounding its development and operation.<br/ ><br/ >Each protocol is examined with respect to its successes and challenges, and future directions and issues are identified. Discussion also encompasses issues of Maori culture, models of community consultation and cooperation elsewhere and training and operational issues.<br/ ><br/ >Each of these questions is discussed in detail and the issues to be discussed and statistical analysis carried out in following papers identified.<en
