Notes: | Outlines the framework of the Onkaparinga Collaborative Approach (OCA) for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Indigenous Family Violence, which has been operating in the Onkaparinga area of South Australia since 2001. In 2002 the OCA adopted the framework and good practice principles of the World Health Organisation report on Violence and Health. The OCA is a collaborative approach to preventing domestic and family violence, involving a wide range of agencies and tiers of service provision ranging from broad community to grassroots work. The OCA structure is outlined in the paper. The approach is largely unfunded. Key agencies form the leadership group. There are six major focus areas: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities; Supporting Women Living with Violence and Abuse; Children and Young People; Engaging Men who use Violence and Abuse; Specific Communities; and Strengthening Communities. A particular feature of the approach is the Statement of Commitment which organisations are invited to sign, affirming their commitment to work against violence, and individuals as Champions to promote leadership against violence. The report contains the Statement of Commitment, list of current signatories and Champions and membership of the current leadership group. |
