Chair: Barry Wakelin.<br/ >This reports on the inquiry into capacity building and service delivery in Indigenous communities by the House of Representatives' Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs. Issues considered include family violence, alcohol and drug misuse, young people at risk, and housing.<br/ >The Committee is concerned that the Commonwealth Government's support for PADV (Partnerships Against Domestic Violence) may be declining over time and makes the recommendation that PADV produces a report to Parliament on the impacts of PADV initiatives funded to address Indigenous family violence and that procedures be implemented to ensure that the report is presented to the House of Representatives. It finds that the location and size of some communities make it difficult for the delivery of support services or interventions. It suggests that cooperation between service providers is essential. Community-owned processes that change attitudes to violence, help offenders to change behaviour and offer support to victims are important. Indigenous communities argue for activities of service providers to support communities to deliver their own solutions.<br/ >The Committee notes the preference of the term 'family violence' among Indigenous communities.en
