dc.description.notesThis report gives an overview of trends in the recent 2-year period for a selection of offence categories. It also presents data on crimes reported to or detected by NSW Police from January 2002 to December 2004. Offences where there was no upward or downward trend included: murder, total assault, assault – domestic violence-related, sexual assault, indecent assault, robbery with a firearm, fraud and malicious damage to property. For domestic violence-related assault, the NSW annual rate for 2004 was 385.3 per 100,000 population. The highest rates for domestic violence-related assaults are: Far West Statistical Division (1,213.6 per 100,000 population); North Western SD (1,097.4 per 100,000 population); and Blacktown Sydney Statistical Division (668.9 per 100,000). The lowest rates: Central Northern Sydney SSD (122.4 per 100,000 population); Lower Northern Sydney SSD (164.1 per 100,000 population); and Northern Beaches SSD (180.0 per 100,000 population). NSW annual rate of breach apprehended violence orders for 2004 was 179.0 per 100,000 population. It also reported property offences as showing a significant downward trend over the past 3 years.en
