| dc.description.notes | This paper summarises the information from the Australian Longitudinal Study of Women’s Health (ALSWH) research that involved over 14,000 young women, aged 18 to 23 when first surveyed in 1996. They were surveyed again in 2000. It examines how violence, especially violence from an intimate partner, is associated with young Australian women’s reproductive and general health. It looks at the scale of violence; violence and pregnancy; and births, miscarriages, abortions, pre-term births and stillbirths. The impact of intimate partner violence on women’s sexual and reproductive as well as mental health is provided. Overseas evidence and research are referred to; women’s use and satisfaction with their doctors; and the beneficial effect of social support are also discussed.<br/ >This paper comprise a summary of the Australian Longitudinal Study of Women’s Health, which examined the impacts of domestic violence on the sexual, reproductive, mental and general health of young Australian women between 1996 and 2005. | en |
