This project reports the issues and strategies identified to assist the Victorian Centres Against Sexual Assault to better meet the needs of Indigenous victims or survivors, and improve training and education for both mainstream and Indigenous workers. It documents the views from Indigenous and mainstream organisations and workers in 3 locations (Metropolitan Melbourne, East Gippsland Region and Barwon Region). Some of the key issues and strategies relate to the fact that: few victims report to police; child sexual abuse is still hidden; 'normalisation' of sexual violence is becoming intergenerational; there are barriers that prevent accessing sexual assault services; there is a lack of Aboriginal-specific services which limit service options for victims; there is a lack of Aboriginal staff at mainstream services; there is a lack of awareness among Aboriginal communities of CASAs; there are limited skills specific to sexual assault; mainstream service responses are often inappropriate; there is institutional racism; there is fear of reprisals from the perpetrator or family or community; there is fear of police or the legal system; there is insufficient cultural knowledge; and there is inconsistent data collection.en
