This reports the findings from the evaluation of the NDV pilot project that was implemented in the Port Adelaide and South Coast Police Local Service Areas between 2000 and 2001. Modelled on the 1997 UK project in Killingbeck (West Yorkshire), NDV was conducted jointly by the Crime Prevention Unit of the South Australian Attorney-General’s Department and the South Australia Police, to reduce the level of repeat domestic violence, and to reduce repeat victimisation of women, children and men involved in domestic violence, through a three-tiered programme of interventions targeted at victim and the perpetrator. It notes the gap between the evaluation and completion of the pilot stage has been problematic for the evaluation. The intervention was extended for over 2 years beyond the planned pilot phase without the project database for its implementation and evaluation. NDV delivered good service to victims of domestic violence in the project areas and there was a reduction in domestic violence calls in these areas but there was no evidence that it encouraged more first-time victims to report to police.
