A background to the research project and a review of existing literature is presented. Four hundred pregnant women participated in the study and the findings suggest a range of factors may contribute to the risk of experiencing violence while pregnant. A comparison of the characteristics of women who had experienced some form of physical or psychological abuse is conducted in the second part of the study and Part Three discusses the results with a view to highlighting the significance of the project for future research and practice. The report concludes by making recommendations for reform to health services and identifying key directions for future research. | en |
